Holly River State Park

Location: Webster County

In 1935, the area that Holly River State Park now occupies was targeted for “Resettlement.” Under the direction of the USDA Farm Security Administration, 13 families were relocated Webster County where the park is. Programs to improve the land included soil erosion, stream reclamation, game restocking and reforestation in addition to a recreational area. WPA laborers began work in January 1936; their first project was road development. The winter of 1935-1936 was one of the coldest winters on record and many of the laborers distinctly.
